Gyokuro is considered the finest style of Japanese green tea, coveted for its rich umami flavor. Because it is shade grown prior to harvest it has a higher concentration of amino acids, which give Gyokuro its sweetness and brothiness. It also tends to have higher levels of caffeine than sun grown Japanese green teas like sencha.
Gyokuro Soheki is single origin, shade covered for three weeks, and crafted from two cultivars. Husband and wife team Takashi and Atsuko Nishide source and refine leaves from Kyoto and surrounding cities, carrying on 140 years of tradition since Nishide Tea was founded in 1860.

Delightful tea, just to my taste.
A brothy, soupy delight!
This green tea is unlike any other I've tried. Richer, bolder and with an almost savory, umami packed flavor profile. It's got just the right amount of caffeine to start the day and has become one of my favorite weekend pleasures- starting the day off with a view to the garden slowly savoring a cup of gyokuro soheki. You can even toss the green tea leaves after you've brewed them into your scrambled eggs or morning omelette for a full gyokuro inspired breakfast! It's a special tea for those special weekend days.
